2006 Summer Program Schedule
July 9-14: PREFACE for current 9th & 10th Graders; Application Deadline: Friday, June 9, 2006 July 16-21: MITE for rising seniors; Application Deadline: Friday, June 16, 2006
The Multiethnic Introduction to Engineering (MITE) program was initiated on the Purdue, West Lafayette campus in the summer of 1975. Participants in the MITE program are high school juniors identified through the College Entrance Examination Board and selected on the basis of their PSAT scores, high school grades, and expressed fields of interest. The majority of the participants in this two-week program are residents of Indiana and surrounding states. This mix provides them with the unique opportunity to meet and interact with other students having similar interests and goals as they learn about engineering at Purdue and evaluate their own potential.
The Purdue University Pre-Freshman and Cooperative Education (PREFACE) program was developed in 1980 and designed to give students completing their freshman and sophomore year in high school an opportunity to "try out" engineering for a week during the summer on the Purdue main campus. Participants nationwide are chosen based on their high school grades and teachers and counselors recommendation. The workshop content is similar to that of the 7th and 8th Grade Workshops, but emphasis is placed upon motivating students to think about career choices as they relate to their own values, abilities and goals. The selection of courses they take during the remainder of their high school career and their academic performance in these courses are also considered. TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY
